Phone Message 9.13.2020

Good afternoon this is Mr. Vernon calling with a few messages for the third week of the school year.  The first two weeks have gone remarkably well and I have been so proud of our students and staff.  We know there have been many new things, but our school has accepted the mission and has had positive attitudes.  I am a very proud principal.

Some of the most important items at Deep Creek are being Ready, Responsible and Respectful.  Please help our Cubs be Ready each day by having them at school each day on time.  We want students in their seats Ready to learn at 8:20am.  This means students that are parent drop off need to be dropped off by 8:15am as they need time to walk to their classes.  Any student dropped off after 8:15am will end up being late to their classrooms.  Starting tomorrow we will be shutting the Parent Pickup gate at 8:15am.  Any families arriving after 8:15am will have to park and walk their child into the front foyer to get a late pass.  We don't want to make things difficult, but we want to stress the importance of being always be Ready to our Cubs.  This is such an important life skill and we thank you for partnering with us to help your students understand.

Another extremely important thing at DCES is Nothing Less Than Our Succes.  Our Cubs understand that the road to success is reached by giving their best and showing GRIT.  This past week and this coming week students have been completing new STAR assessments, Diagnostic Reading Assessments and Fluency Assessments.  All of these assessments will help us see students' current academic levels and determine the path to help each of them grow.  Like everything we do, it is important to do their best and show GRIT, especially when questions are challenging. Parents please help us stress the importance of doing their best and showing GRIT at home as well.  Again, we are partners helping our Cubs grow.

Last, I want to inform parents that we will have our 2nd fire drill this week and the first safety drill this week.  We practice one fire drill and one safety drill a month.  The goal is to make sure we are calmly prepared if we ever have an emergency.

Thank you all for listening.  I hope you all have a relaxing Sunday night.  I am looking forward to seeing our Ready, Responsible and Respectful Cubs tomorrow.
